Patio Shades

Patio Shades

If you want to sit outside but do not want to be directly in the sun, you should cover your patio with a patio shade. This will let you spend time outdoors without having to endure the hot sun being directly on you. Patio shades keep your patio cool since the sun is not warming up the concrete that makes it seem so warm. Patio shades even let you go out when it is raining, so if you like to watch and listen to the rain, you can enjoy a nice rainy day under the protection of your patio shade.

Patios are great places to spend time with friends and family. You are close to your home—just a few feet from anything you may have forgotten to bring out—but free to enjoy the outside world uninhibited. In fact, the patio is an extension of your home, and should be available for use anytime. If your patio is not shaded, you should really consider buying a patio shade for it.

Patio ShadesThere are different sorts of patio shades. Each has a specific function. Umbrellas are not very practical for most people. There is only enough shade for one or two people, and do not allow you to move around your patio. Umbrellas are—ironically—not much use for rainy weather either. Installing sunshades or awnings is the most ideal solution. There are many retractable awnings that allow you to enjoy your patio uncovered when possible. Then you can easily pull it out when it starts to get too hot or rainy. There are many brands of retractable awnings, but the main feature you should look for is ease of use. You do not want to buy a retractable patio shade that takes a lot of time to pull out or put back up. Patio shades enable you to use your patio at all times of the year and throughout all sorts of weather.

Awnings are usually made from either aluminum or plastic. The frame helps to stretch and keep the fabric in place. This fabric filters the sunlight and provides shade for the patio. Woven fabrics or polyesters are the normal materials for such patio shades. Keep in mind that these need to be cleaned on a regular schedule, because they develop fungal and mold growth.

Canopies are similar to awnings, but they cover more area because they are a little bigger. Also, canopies are supported by a pole or poles that rest on the ground, whereas awnings usually have a frame that rests on the side of the house. There are also many hybrid kinds of awnings/canopies that blur the distinction between the two.

Choosing one of many patio shades options depends on the structure of your patio as well as on your individual preference and price range. Keeping your patio accessible during all times of the year and throughout all kinds of weather is something your whole family with enjoy. Patio shades are a great investment and give you many hours of enjoyment.
